Apply to the Learning, Design, and Technology Program 

Eligibility 

We are excited to receive your application. To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (or the equivalent) with a record showing promise of success in graduate studies. The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences requires a 3.0 cumulative GPA (or its equivalent) for admission.
• Demonstrate high academic achievement, a clear commitment to learning, design, and technology, as well as related work or academic experience and achievements.

Deadlines

The final application deadline for a Fall 2025 start is April 1, 2025. Rolling admissions begin after April 1. Students who wish to have their application fee waived need to apply by January 15, 2025.

Graduate School Online Application

Students must complete the application to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The online application and recommendation system accepts all required application materials, except for official transcripts and official test scores. Detailed instructions on how to complete the application can be found on the Graduate School online application page. Please reach out to the Graduate School with any questions.

Resume or CV

Upload a resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) with your online application. Please feel free to include a list of published work.

Unofficial Transcripts

Applicants are required to upload to the application system unofficial transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended.

Do not send electronic or paper copies of your transcripts before receiving an offer of admission. Review the unofficial transcript requirements for additional details and FAQs.

Transcripts should be mailed to:

Applicants for admission to our program must provide official transcripts of ALL work beyond secondary school—undergraduate coursework, graduate coursework, study abroad courses, and non-degree courses. This requirement also includes any transfer credits that may have been completed at another institution other than the degree awarding institution. Official transcripts are those issued by the institution in a signed and sealed envelope. For additional information, please visit the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences website. International applicants who attend institutions outside of the United States are strongly encouraged to submit their transcripts in the form of World Education Services (WES) ICAP evaluations and should note that official transcripts are delivered electronically with their evaluations through WES.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

All applicants are required to demonstrate a level of proficiency in the English language sufficient to meet the admission requirement of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Proficiency can be demonstrated by one of the following:

• the receipt of a bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university where English is the language of instruction for the entire institution, or
• submission of an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report with a minimum score of approximately 550 (paper-based test) or approximately 80 (internet test), or
• submission of an official International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Academic Module score report with a minimum score of 7.0. The TOEFL and IELTS must be received directly from the appropriate testing organization. Photocopied/faxed documents will not fulfill this requirement.

Academic Statement

Maximum length 500 words. Your essay should address the following: Why is the Learning, Design, and Technology program the program for you? Be thoughtful and specific to help application reviewers picture you thriving in our program’s environment. If your transcripts or test scores are not representative of your ability, say why this is so.

Writing Sample

You should select a writing sample that shows you have the ability to handle high-level academic writing and produce original critical analysis. The writing sample can be on any topic, but ideally, it should reflect either your knowledge of or interest in learning design, technology, higher education, or a related topic. There is no required length, but the sample should be substantial enough to demonstrate your ability to write at the graduate level. We accept a variety of formats, including research papers, academic essays, or white papers. In lieu of a writing sample, applicants can also submit video and digital projects.

Recommendations

Three recommendations are required. Ideally, applicants should submit at least one from an academic source and at least one from a work-related source. The online application utilizes a secure online recommendation system which will:

• automatically email your recommendation providers with instructions for online submission of the recommendation
• allow applicants to track recommendations received or not received and follow up with recommenders who still need to submit their appraisals
• expedite the processing of the recommendations, which will be included in the online application once submitted

Application Fee

A $90.00 non-refundable fee is payable by credit card at the time of application submission.
